'Shield_2.jpg' is an original photo of the Caning Shield installed on a Canee.
It is intended to protect the lower back, the upper thighs, and the flanks of the wearer by exposing only the 'Cane-able area' (the lower buttocks). Note the alignment of the lower edge of the rectangular opening with the sulcus of the wearer (the 'sulcus' is the crease-line where buttock and thigh meet) It will find its greatest use where the Caning is to be severe to very-severe, and where long, thick Canes are to be used ( 36 inch - 915 millimetre - or longer). It is most effective where the Canee is in the upright, or nearly upright, position, with arms restrained above the head. But it is also of value when the Canee is in varying degrees of bending. Although it was never intended to compensate for careless Caning, its use does lend confidence to both Caner and Canee who wish to proceed with a severe Caning. The waterproof nature of the Shield surface facilitates cleaning. Soapy water is recommended, followed by a swabbing with methylated spirit (denatured alcohol) Eric Carwardine Perth, Western Australia 16th March, 2001 |
